Classical Guitarist Daniel Quinn released this first recording in the summer of 1998. It features four solo sonatas written by the great Mexican Composer Manuel Ponce. These works were written for the Andres Segovia in the early 1900's, and are some of the best works ever written for the guitar. Segovia asked Ponce write works for the guitar in the style of other famous composers of previous eras. This was done to fill his concert programs with works from different periods, or in this case to make it sound like he had works from many different periods. Segovia would actually list them on his programs as by other composers.
The suite in A minor was written to sound like the music of Sylvius Leopold Weiss; a famous German lutenist from the 17th century. Sonata Classical is in the style of Fernando Sor, one of our most prolific and popular 18th century guitarist/composers. Sonata Romantica was written as a hommage to the great Romantic composer Franz Schubert. While Sonata Mexicana was written to give the rhythmic flavor of Ponces' homeland; Mexico.
Daniel Quinn has performed all around the United States, Canada, England and Japan. For More information on him please see his website at: www.geocities.com/danquinnguitar/
