Smith & Dragoman
Guelph, Ontario
Biography
The singer-songwriter duo, Brett Smith & Michael Dragoman began performing music together in the mid 90's in Guelph, Ontario. Their music, largely folk-based at the time, has gradually evolved into the genre of world music incorporating sounds and rhythms from Africa, the Middle East and traditional sounds from the West.
The music of Smith & Dragoman is inspired by the incredible stories of the early history of the Bahá’í Faith; stories of heroes and heroines from mid 19th century Persia who chose to lead a life in accordance with their beliefs – but which ran counter to the dominant voice of the fanatical religious leaders of the time and which, in the end, cost them their lives.
Their haunting melodies and lyrics, supported by world-class recording musicians such as Stephen Fearing, Ron Allen, Rob Piltch and Shaheed Ali Khan and performed by an equally talented live band including Emily Dragoman, Aaron Ferrera, Asher Lenz, Chris Church and Glenn Olive, take the listener on an emotional spiritual journey, exploring themes of love, courage, honour, tragedy and victory.
Smith & Dragoman have performed at numerous conferences and other functions across North America. They have released two CD’s, Open the Gates and Under the Lote-Tree , and one live concert DVD.

One of the best live music DVDs I've seen in a long time. The vocals were hauntingly beautiful with harmonies 2nd to none. Emily's voice is that of an angel. Watching and listening to the way they present the stories about some of the historical event in the Baha'i Faith made this a very moving experience, I was close to tears of both sadness and joy many times.
Their's is truly a gift from God for all of us to enjoy.
What more can I say.
