This is music with an edge and a spirit. You will be moved, stirred, provoked and touched deeply by this duo's original songs and lyrics. Their richly textured vocals and sensitive harmonies will take you on an emotional ride as they unabashedly sing of life in our times. You will laugh, cry, think, and remember that you are part of a people capable of doing great things.
Susan and Julie have been making music together since 1999, but their individual musical journeys began for them both at an early age.
Susan grew up singing show tunes and folk ballads with her family. Though she is an able flutist, Susan's creative force as a songwriter is most evident in her blending of six strings and a soul. She learned to play the guitar when she was eleven years old and wrote her first song at age twelve. Over the years she has honed her craft through performances at nightclubs, college campuses and community stages.
Julie received classical influences as a child from her parents, both professional musicians. She was introduced to the piano at age four, the violin at seven, and, at ten, the French horn, which she played through college, touring Europe with the Duke University Wind Symphony. Always a singer, Julie has sung in choirs throughout her life. She learned to play the bass guitar to add depth to live performances with Susan, and has recently begun writing her own songs.
Susan and Julie bring crisp social critique, bold honesty, emotional integrity, and passion for life to their songs and their singing. Partners in life, they apply these gifts and much love to co-parenting their children, Sarah and Andrew. Susan and Julie are both ordained ministers in the United Church of Christ. Susan works as a hospice chaplain, and Julie is a chaplain to youth in detention.

Melodies, lyrics, harmonies. Songs of power and grace.
author: Wayne Baltz
I received this CD as a gift, and what a gift it turned out to be! This is stirring music from a pair of gifted artists. Their songs have something to say, and on a wide range of topics that reach out and grab hold of the humanity in all of us. There are a few moments across the 13 tracks where I sense a note that wavers or a line that, to my editorial ear, might have been constructed to scan more cleanly. But these are miniscule flaws. They do not keep me from returning time and again to this fine collection of challenging, humorous, poignant, and uplifting songs. These singer/songwriters not only have something to say; they say it beautifully.
