Drazy Hoops is a Singer/Songwriter/Multi-Instrumentalist who was born in Chicago, but is now based in New York. Former leader of the Boston based band Atomic Cafe, Drazy released his first solo record "Straight To Black" (on Shimmydisc/Knitting Factory Records) in 1998. Since then Drazy has completed 7 records (including this year's “Into The Red”). His songs appear in such feature films as "The Book of Life" by Hal Hartley, and "Next Stop Wonderland" by Brad Anderson. A compilation of songs from Drazy's first 3 records called "A World Away" (First Flight Records) was released in Australia and New Zealand in July of 2003.
More like little films that ebb and flow from song to song, Drazy still makes full-length conceptual records. Featuring members of Luna, Hem, Chris Whitley's band as well as other great musicians, "Into The Red" is conceived to be "Part 1" of a 3 record set.
"Beautiful melodies, depth and substance... passionate, intelligent lyrics, cutting edge musicianship." - Bucket Full Of Brains, UK
"I would suggest catching him if he happens to be anywhere near your town, as he is an artist that, in a just world, would be enormously popular" - The Gavin Report
"..traversing the like-minded genius of Captain Beefheart, Nick Drake, Tom Waits, David Bowie and Beck, just to name a few." - Rockpile
"Equipped with surprisingly sumptuous, breathy vocals that span soul falsetto to that VU grumble growl." - The Village Voice
"Whether it's a tune by Tindersticks, Son Volt or and old Stones Ballad, there's always room on your mixed tape for a lonely song, and guitarist Drazy Hoops stands to be crowned the genre's king." - Magnet
"Dark and twangy guitar rock highlighted by Hoops vocals, which range from soulful falsetto to a Leonard Cohenesque grumble." - Alternative Press
