Album Notes

Dr Breeze is Wilk McKean, born and raised in New Orleans, he grew up with the sounds of Dixieland jazz, rhythm and blues, and pop. At the age of nine, his grandfather bought him a trumpet and he learned the basics of music hoping to be the next Al Hurt. In 1963, his life changed forever when he heard The Beatles on the radio. He bought his first guitar at the age of twelve and like the song said "played until his fingers bled". He was playing his first professional gigs by the age of fifteen, and by the time he was legal to play in clubs, he had already played his share of them. He played in groups with names like The Shadows of Eterity, Potter's Field and Bayou. During this time he also had the opportunity to work as a vocalist in some of the area's top recording studios, as well as compiling a nice collction of original music. He also wrote a couple of radio jingles.

In 1979, he helped form a group called Flite. This group was a very popular musical force on the north shore of Lake Ponchartrain until the tragic loss of drummer and friend Kevin Frere in the summer of 2005. He stayed with Flite playing numerous venues including clubs, weddings, private parties, Mardi Gras balls and fairs until 1989.

In 1989, he left the U.S. for a seven year European tour. Living in Germany and England, he played with a couple of German musicians in a trio called The Night Dogs. Eventually, all good things must come to an end and he returned stateside in 1996.

Pensacola, Florida looked like a good place to settle. Having traveled to places like Hong Kong, Hawaii, Palma Majorca, Cannes, Cypress and the Caribbean, he considers the area from Gulf Shores, Alabama to Panama City, Florida to have some of the best beaches in the world. He finds it a joy to work and play in the area he calls the Redneck Riviera and is happy to call it home. Now, he is firmly established, enjoying just about all the work he can handle entertaining at private parties, group conferences at some of the area's finest resorts and weddings.

He recently finished production on his fourth CD of original music in his studio in Pensacola for his own End of the Road record label. And now you have an opportunity to check out his music for yourself!!

Another broad music spectrum from the Dr.
author: Jon Charles Fortman
Gulf of Mexico offers yet another compilation that has the music spectrum nearly completely covered in typical Dr. Breeze fashion. The star of this effort is ANOTHER TIME. Very well crafted both musically and production-wise. In it, we hear a trademark Dr. Breeze key change that is subtle yet inviting into the C section of the song. I especially like the approach taken to transition back to the original key: he gets you there by making you think you never really changed keys. That can be a tall order in writing that a lesser writer would be oblivious to. The lyrics for this track, to me, stand out above the rest of the effort as well. I also think I GOT ALOT is pretty well crafted. The chorus has harmonic rhythm that is interesting. You wouldn't think that many chords could change under such a simple melody but the Dr. pulls it off nicely. Cool breezes are blowin' on the big peninsula.
