Album Notes

The Organ at St. Michael Parish in Wheaton, Illinois is a ground-breaking instrument that incorporates 39 ranks of pipes and over 100 ranks of Rodgers & Walker digital stops. To date no one has been able to clearly tell which stops are windblown and which stops are not. The organ's success is due to the fact that the organ builder hand-picked each pipe and digital rank to blend perfectly with each other. The extensive stoplist of this special organ was brought to the attention of composer, Charles Callahan, who felt that it would be the perfect instrument to record several 19th Century Romantic Organ "gems," since there were five divisions worth of ensembles and color stops at his disposal.
