notes
Some call it heavy. Some call it edgy. We call it Dr. Chunk. With influences ranging from melodic rock to alternative thrash, this band is on a mission to pump energy everywhere they go. Vocalist Brian Mackey, previously with Living Relic, demands attention with his intense ranting and theatrical delivery. Wildman guitarist Jeff Simpson, formerly from San Diego's speed metal band Massacre Zer0, lays down a bed of crushing, chunky riffs. Drummer Ben Victa, hailing from the AC/DC-like No Bargain, hits hard and steady. Bassist Scott Milnes brings his funk influence and enthusiasm to add dimension and texture to the band's aural assault.
In early 2001 Dr. Chunk recorded their first offerings, when they produced a studio demo that included early versions of "Face The Fear", "Traitor's View", and "Feel My Pain". The effort received strong reviews from fans and press alike, reinforcing the dedication required from the group when they decided to self-produce their own professionally mastered, full-length debut album. Dr. Chunk went into the studio again in August of 2001 and did not emerge again until early 2002, ensuring that each song recorded received the attention to detail that it deserved. Released in May of that year, the self-titled debut was mixed by P.O.D.'s Steve Russell and mastered by Brian "Big Bass" Gardner (of Linkin Park and Blink-182 repute) at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood, CA.
With an intense tour schedule, Dr. Chunk has played up and down the coast of California over the past two years. They have torn up The Troubadour and the Cat Club in Hollywood, 14 Below in Santa Monica, and The Pound in San Francisco. They have crushed Kozmos in Huntington Beach, the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar, and Cane's in Mission Beach. They frequent San Diego venues such as Brick By Brick, the Longshot Saloon, and Dream Street. Dr. Chunk has also played all-ages shows at the Epicentre in San Diego, as well as several private parties; they are entertaining to old and young alike.
Nominated for best rock/metal album of 2002 by the San Diego Music Awards Academy, Dr. Chunk is currently working on writing material for their second CD. They are also bringing their music to new listeners by playing live, expressing their uncompromising form of metal with surgical precision on the United States west coast.

Now That's some kickin' Metal !
author: J. Kaiser - Guitarist from PhoenixWith all the choices of metal these days(which, in my opinion, most of it sucks), Dr. Chunk comes out and delivers a great debut. Lots of killer chops here. Great musicianship and the vocals are very complimentary. The rap-esque passages are quite fitting and work well with the tight grooves and heavy riffs. I played this disc for a friend who is pretty picky about metal, and BAM! He bought a copy. Good job guys. Keep up the good work. Can't wait for the next CD!
My metal head friend gives it high marks.
author: DucktoneI bought this CD for my accountant friend who's in the midst of tax season (13 hour days.) He said he's been listening to it twice a night to help get him through - no higher praise.
A real tight-arse CD
author: Percy of Yorkshire, EnglandThis is the first time for many years that the hairs have stood up on the back of my neck! Brilliant music, superb production and excellent cover art.
Good tight riffs! Vocals that are needed in Heavy music today.
author: pezThe bass, drums, guitar all fit together very well, unlike somethings Ive been hearing lately. Face the fear is probably my fav. The vocal delivery and overall singing is very fefreshing.
