Right off the bat, this CD contains an inventive title on the outside and inventive edgy pop on the inside. Echoes of XTC, Television, Blur, Wire, Pavement et al are easy reference points. At a pinch, you could probably say that Dream 13 belongs to the post-punk revivalist movement that would include Interpol, the Strokes, Franz Ferdinand and their ilk. Or maybe they're just really smart fellows delivering pop smarts. Keep a close watch, my friends.

Ok immediately thoughts of old The Jesus Lizard come to mind—you know that early ‘90s alternative rock sound? This is the new project by Casey Virock whose old band Space Bike got accolades from CMJ, John Peel, and was #23 on the Melody Maker singles chart in the mid ‘90’s. “Man with an Honest Face” is truckin’ good with percussion hammering that’s almost machinelike coupled with melodic vocals and catchy guitar riffage. “Run” is the type of rocker that you could easily hear on all the modern rock radio stations while songs like “Doomsday” and “Sit So Still” could dominate college radio with ease. Catchy, dominant, and beguiling all at once, isn’t it amazing a little silver disc can produce that?

This is a pretty good disc of radio type rock. Some of the songs are a little more rockin' and some lean more toward the pop side of things. Some strange Zappa-like interludes between a few songs. All in all, it's a pretty good disc, easy to listen to and pretty catchy. (MK)
