Hi, my name is Thom Osl, born and raised in the midst of the alps in Austria, and I'm now a senior student of audio engineering in Byron Bay, Australia. All my life I've been more interested in the stuff that happens in between the notes, the stuff that we have less control of. I'd be sitting at a piano, holding down all kinds of combinations of keys and I'd just be listening to the sounds interact and decay until I couldn't hear them anymore. Of course, then as I was introduced to musique concretè and noise music, I was highly intrigued. Inspired by people such as Lawrence English, a brilliant noise artist and curator of many avant-garde events in Brisbane, Chihei Hatakeyama, Rafael Anton Irisarri, Merzbow and needless to say John Cage, I have made a conceptual noise music album myself.
Tabula Rasa orbits around the hypothetical question of "what if this was indeed our last year on earth?". This particular year we have found ourselves in has stirred up a lot of thought and I guess this music is merely my way of processing this issue.
