Album Notes

From across the snowy wastelands and sunny plains of Manitoba, Canada, comes the Adventure Metal of Dream Quest! Bursting with energy and fun, hard to erase from your mind (though, why would you want to?), this is music written for the soundtrack to everyone's personal adventures!

Dream Quest is currently supporting their sensational debut album, "The Release", with the fury of a thousand angry boars! Darryl Sterdan of the Winnipeg Sun says, "the adventure begins with the galloping double-bass beats, chugging riffs, harmonized highwire solos and epic, soaring anthems of classic 80s speed metal. But lest you think you've wandered in on an Iron Maiden tribute band, [Dream Quest] eschews the testosterone aggression and pompous bluster for proggier free-wheeling arrangements, playful flourishes, and the acrobatic techno-shred prowess of Rush or Yes" (November 12, 2004). The band is also working on new material, getting ready for the next recording.

Founded in 2001 by Steve and Mark Doerksen, and Phil Janzen, the three originally performed and recorded some demos under several different names. Though show dates were few and far between in the early days, the response to the raw talent and creativity in the band was overwhelming. This encouragement prompted more writing, more shows, and - combined with the band's own insatiable love of their craft - led to the present push to get themselves out of the pond and into the ocean.

Unable to easily define their style of play using common vernacular, the band coined the term Adventure Metal. Combining blazing fast drums, mesmerising guitars, soaring melodies, and cascades of harmonies, it's catchier than speed metal, heavier than pop-punk, and more innovative than hard rock. Adventure Metal is also fun. Part of the reason Dream Quest exists is simply to make people happy, whether by over-the-top stage theatrics or by the sensations of the music itself.

Fast. Fun. Furious. If Indiana Jones, Conan the Barbarian, and a ninja wearing a jetpack joined forces, even they could not match the excitement that is Dream Quest!

REVIEWS

Hints of punk and metal at its very best!

Dream Quest - The Release has been my best buy this year so far and I've ordered many cds. Their music is so intense, the guitars are so technically oriented, the drums are some of the craziest I've ever seen, and the vocals are very melodic. Still on the vocals, they have that punk rock feel to them and really flow well with that adventure metal style. I am looking forward to this band's new release this year!
