Elevated!

“Elevated”
Last week at Gibbs in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, I had the pleasure and thrill of attending and being entertained by Cleveland native and now Columbus resident, “Elaine Richardson” or as she is professionally known “Dr. E” she has the energy of Anita Baker, a voice reminisced of Eartha, Kit, a little Teena Marie, yet so very much her own! Belting out tunes of Chaka Kahn and Rufus, (Tell Me Something Good) her own ditty about minutes on her cell phone, and tracks from her current CD “Elevated” Dr.E includes her audience in her set, making her live performance an exciting and memorable experience! Her CD “Elevated is a Cd about life, trials, love, God, looks… Life is what she sings about, she sings well of life’s tribulations’ because she has lived these tribulations’ but she sings also of success, of overcoming, of reaching new heights. She is bluesy, sometimes jazzy, loving and even a little country, and yet she is superb in her delivery of it all! If you can catch a live performance please do, you won’t be disappointed, and if you can’t, get her CD “Elevated” Visit Dr E. on Revebnation http://www.reverbnation.com/artist/index/doctae and Facebook under Docta E Richardson

I didn't know what to expect from this one, but after listening I couldn't get enough. It has a spiritual quality that shines through her voice and attitude. I felt "ELEVATED" while enjoying this one. I'm not normally a fan of the genre, but this one is a keeper.

Wrapped in Rainbows!
author: Cynthia Tyson
Zora Neale Huston said,"I have been in Sorrow's kitchen and licked out all the pots. Then I have stood on the peaky mountain wrapped in rainbows, with a harp and sword in my hands." Docta E's Elevated CD captures the spirit of those words! When you listen to the music and lyrics something spiritual happens, you can feel the sorrow, you can feel the pain, but soon you feel the joy that comes in the morning and you are wrapped in the rainbows- ELEVATED!!! This is the cd you play in the morning (Good Girl Down) to get you going, in the afternoon(Elevated ) to lift you up, in the evening with your boo ( Your Everything) and in the midnight hour (Giving My Life to You) to calm your spirit! Songs in the Key of Life
author: Adrienne Dixson
If you are a Black woman of a certain age, you have had your share of experiences, good and bad, in love and life. Rarely do we have artists who can capture our experiences, the good, the bad, the uplifting, the depressing and express them so clearly and poignantly. Docta E's Elevated is that rare CD that captures it all--our spirituality, our insecurities, our triumphs. This is definitely "grown folks" music. Docta E shows her vocal and musical range with songs in the "traditional" soul/funk vibe to the folkish acoustic guitar tune, Your Everything. She shows off her blues chops on "Let Me Clear My Throat". In an age of Auto-Tune and sampling, it is refreshing to hear harmony, chord changes, acoustic instruments and most importantly, LYRICS! Elevated features a beautiful tribute to late Phyllis Hyman. Poet Mary Weems penned a moving poem meditation on Hyman's life and the legacy of her suicide. In keeping with Docta E's overall theme, this tribute speaks to the complexity of being a Black woman in America. For jazz lovers, Docta E gives a beautiful rendition of Here's That Rainy Day that sounds like she channeled Hyman when she recorded it.
If you're looking for a cd that has a range of Black musical styles from a talented and capable vocalist, then Docta E's Elevated is it!
