He dreams in sound

From the Aug. 24, 2004, North Dakota State University Spectrum... By Matthew R. Perrine Artist: Drew Danburry Album: An Introduction to Sex Rock Label: Mother Clucker Genre: Private stereolab reels Where to Buy: www.motherclucker.micahdahl.com Grade: B There are a few things you need to know about this album: An Introduction to Sex Rock is the coolest album title ever, it contains the coolest song titles ever and -- yet -- it is, indeed, a self-proclaimed aural experiment not unlike the noises and sounds presumably running through Jason Lord\'s Chicago correspondence mind. With that in mind, Sex Rock runs the gamut from extremely rewarding Pacific Northwest indie label-esque wizard grooves (\"I Hope This Song is So Good it Reminds You of Wizards\") to bizarre, National Geographic documentary soundtrack pieces (\"Red Music Rifle\"). While this experimentation is worthy of applause, it\'s not always the most enjoyable to listen to straight-out. But the good thing about Drew Danburry\'s solo adventures -- he\'s a member of the Danburrys, naturally -- is that they all work perfectly serving as backgrounds for deep thinking and/or heavy drinking. Sex Rock is essentially the basement rock equivalent of Benjamin Andre\'s The Love Below: It\'s all over the board -- with unnecessary interludes and all -- but what you remember are the rays of awe-inspiring brilliance poking shyly through the clouds of unfiltered genius. Danburry is really something else -- probably from planet Melmac, actually -- but Sex Rock is still just a series of experiments and not the full-fledged album he has within him.

Love seems so easy in this world of music. The songs remind you of whats important, as well as creates a simple escape with the pressing of play.
