ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Songwriter, Drew Gibson's critically successful debut album. Distinct as a dusty street, as if grown from the earth, rooted in soil and dirt, yet blossoming with flowery heartache, Letterbox possesses a brand of yearning for the simple things - front porches, wooden chairs, and all things folk and blue. Working with award-winning producer, Marco Delmar, and such talented musicians as drummer Robbie Magruder, bassist Jon Nazdin, as well as close friend and fellow musician, Paul Curreri, this debut is a body of work with eloquent testimony.

Possessing an acoustic foundation with walls of electricity and melodic in its simplicity, Letterbox brings a level of professionalism and maturity rarely seen in a freshman effort today. The album reaches into a world of country blues, roots music, Americana, and folk. With influences from Robert Johnson, Big Bill Broonzy, and Mississippi John Hurt, spinning melodies with outstanding guitar picking stature is truly this working man's craft.

WHAT FOLKS ARE SAYING...

“Who is Drew Gibson? Only one of the most talented singer-songwriters to emerge recently from Virginia. Gibson crafts heartfelt lyrics that are confessional, personal and poetic - the kind of music that makes your heart ache.”
- Go Triad, Winston-Salem, North Carolina

***************

“Drew Gibson’s guitar playing is informed by heavy-hitting, finger-picking masters of the past, and his song-writing is dynamic and thoughtful. It’s a joy to hear this artist at work.”
- David Cotton, Jammin' Java, Vienna, Virginia

***************

"Drew is an insanely talented blues musician with great vocals and songs. Reminiscent of an old Grog favorite of mine, Ben Andrews, Gibson skillfully plays Delta Blues with a great hook."
- Colin Hoss, Grog and Tankard, Washington, DC

***************

"If I hadn't seen it for myself, I could have sworn David Wilcox and Peter Case had somehow spawned an offspring. With a hint of 'old school' blues, Gibson's songs are thoughtful, passionate, and full of emotion. Backed by some dazzling guitar work, he delivers them effortlessly with vocals that can be both course and tender. When it comes to up and coming singer-songwriters, Drew is certainly someone to keep your eyes on."
- Chris Patterson, Austin Grill, Silver Spring, Maryland

Letterbox was worth the wait!
As they say all good things come to those who wait, this Album By Drew Gibson "Letterbox" was definately worth the wait. Although I am alittle bias because my name happens to be Drew Gibson as well, I truly love the blues, folk and country sounds of Drew Gibson's Music along with the unforgettable lyrics. I would like to just say to everyone, if you are looking for a new sound, a new person to watch become a household name in the future, buy this album, listen to it and share it with all your friends, you will not be dissappointed. Best of luck with your new album Drew, it hit the top of my chart.

Good things come to those who wait and I am extremely pleased with the outcome o
I have not stopped playing this CD in my car and just can't get enough. The acoustics set a soothing sound for easy listening in any environment. I look forward to seeing Drew perform in person!

Can't stop listening!
I have not been able to stop listening to this CD since I bought it. Gibson's soft, raspy voice, the lyrics and melody penetrate to the very core of the listener. His songs are simultaneously sad, longing, intense, seductive, hypnotic and erotic. At the same time they are also very comforting. The music is tight, well played, well arranged, and very easy to listen to. Drew Gibson is, as of this writing, relatively unknown. I doubt this will last for long. The quality of the music will not allow it.

A Beautiful Listen
Drew Gibson's cd is a beautiful piece of work from an extraordinary artist. His producer, Marco Delmar, did an exquisite job of showcasing the essence of what Drew is about: poignant lyrics, and sweet and memorable folksy melodies--songs that are sentimental without being saccharine. Drew's cd is what perfection sounds like.

I've Been Waiting For This Since College
I've been listening to Drew Gibson since the mid- to late-90's and this offering is exactly what I've been waiting for...and better than I expected. His bluesy & soulful sound make you think, feel, yearn, and want to listen again. Letterbox is a great listen, and I look forward to many CD's to come.

A top-shelf album
The album is, in a word, soulful. There are recurring themes... of boxes: of letters and of pine... of love: found and lost... of hands: for writing, for holding hearts, for taking... of getting close, and being too far... of sundown, sunlight, sunrise... of city edges and country lines... of her and of you. These are themes that listeners can easily relate to. Musically: masterful guitar plucking and a solid, warm and earthy voice. The album has an impressive range of sounds, from the simplistic beauty of man-and-his-guitar in "A Country Heart" and "Long to Know Where You Have Been" to the semi-psychedelic wanderings of "Maybe No One" to the uptempo groove of "Here in the Evening Too." And still, it is a cohesive and solid collection. A top-shelf record, Drew. Well done - there is not a song on it that I don't like. It will be played again and again in my home. This is your first album? Hard to tell... But, still, looking forward to more.

Just Wonderful
I came across Drew's music by chance and fell completely in love with the simplicity, comfort, and emotion in his sound. Letterbox is just fantastic; there's a song for every mood and I truly haven't been able to stop listening to it since I got it. I believe with everything I have that Drew Gibson is going someplace with this album.

Well Worth the Wait
This CD has been in the works for a long time and it is certainly worth the wait. Drew Gibson’s skills put him in the top tier of recording artists and musical greats. “Letterbox” is a mature sound that needs to be heard through a magnifying glass so that every single subtlety can be fully appreciated. There is something new with each listening. The guitar work is superbly tasteful, with chord progressions that are complex and interesting. Drew’s vocals make the genuine poetry of his lyrics come alive and remain listenable time and time again. It was masterfully crafted at Recording Arts by Marco Delmar, in Fairfax, Virginia and it is a magnificent listening experience. Given Drew’s prolific songwriting skills and musical abilities, I look forward to many more brilliant CDs to come.

Drew is a complete artist that can sing, play and write, and all of these talents are on full display with Letterbox. I had the good fortune of jamming with Drew in the late 90's and I'm glad to see him get the chance to share his music with everyone on this inspired album. Favorite tracks: Running From You and Music Chair.

A excellent album, a brilliant performer
I was fortunate enought to catch Drew Gibson open up for Minnie Driver at the Birchmere the other night...one word: Brilliant. He totally impressed the sold-out crowd with humorous stories, incredible guitar chops, and a charming and humble attitude. The album? It's absolutely fantastic. Keep it up, Drew.
