Album Notes

Drew Gibson, guitarist, songwriter and Virginia native, is proud to announce the release of his long-awaited debut album, Letterbox, from Cragmont Records.

Distinct as a dusty street, as if grown from the earth, rooted in soil and dirt, yet blossoming with flowery heartache, Drew's music possesses a brand of yearning for the simple things - front porches, letterboxes, and all things folk and blue. Working with award-winning producer, Marco Delmar, and such talented musicians as drummer Robbie Magruder, bassist Jon Nazdin, as well as close friend and fellow musician, Paul Curreri, Drew has released a body of work with eloquent testimony.

Possessing an acoustic foundation with walls of electricity and melodic in its simplicity, this debut release brings a level of professionalism and maturity rarely seen in a freshman effort today. Letterbox reaches into a world of country blues, roots music, Americana, and folk. With influences from Robert Johnson, Big Bill Broonzy, and Mississippi John Hurt, spinning melodies with outstanding guitar picking stature is truly this working man's craft.

WHAT FOLKS ARE SAYING...

“Who is Drew Gibson? Only one of the most talented singer-songwriters to emerge recently from Virginia. Gibson crafts heartfelt lyrics that are confessional, personal and poetic - the kind of music that makes your heart ache.”
- Go Triad, Winston-Salem, North Carolina

***************

“Drew Gibson’s guitar playing is informed by heavy-hitting, finger-picking masters of the past, and his song-writing is dynamic and thoughtful. It’s a joy to hear this artist at work.”
- David Cotton, Jammin' Java, Vienna, Virginia

***************

"Drew is an insanely talented blues musician with great vocals and songs. Reminiscent of an old Grog favorite of mine, Ben Andrews, Gibson skillfully plays Delta Blues with a great hook."
- Colin Hoss, Grog and Tankard, Washington, DC

***************

"If I hadn't seen it for myself, I could have sworn David Wilcox and Peter Case had somehow spawned an offspring. With a hint of 'old school' blues, Gibson's songs are thoughtful, passionate, and full of emotion. Backed by some dazzling guitar work, he delivers them effortlessly with vocals that can be both course and tender. When it comes to up and coming singer-songwriters, Drew is certainly someone to keep your eyes on."
- Chris Patterson, Austin Grill, Silver Spring, Maryland

A excellent album, a brilliant performer

I was fortunate enought to catch Drew Gibson open up for Minnie Driver at the Birchmere the other night...one word: Brilliant. He totally impressed the sold-out crowd with humorous stories, incredible guitar chops, and a charming and humble attitude. The album? It's absolutely fantastic. Keep it up, Drew.

A Beautiful Listen

Drew Gibson's cd is a beautiful piece of work from an extraordinary artist. His producer, Marco Delmar, did an exquisite job of showcasing the essence of what Drew is about: poignant lyrics, and sweet and memorable folksy melodies--songs that are sentimental without being saccharine. Drew's cd is what perfection sounds like.

Great debut by a great artist!

I've seen Drew Gibson live and have enjoyed his music, but the depth and richness of his first studio album was like listening to him for the first time. I can't get this album out of my stereo or out of my head. I find myself humming tunes like A Country Heart and If I Haven't Met My Maker. This CD was a great debut by a great artist. I recommend this album to any music lover.

Drew is a complete artist that can sing, play and write, and all of these talents are on full display with Letterbox. I had the good fortune of jamming with Drew in the late 90's and I'm glad to see him get the chance to share his music with everyone on this inspired album. Favorite tracks: Running From You and Music Chair.
