Drink Small, a South Carolina blues legend since the '50s, has recorded for a succession of labels (Sharp, Southland, Mapleshade, Ichiban, his own Bishopville imprint, and others) and has played all of the major American blues festivals. You've seen him in Chicago, New Orleans, Davenport, IA (Miss. Valley), King Biscuit, Port Townsend, etc. His voice is probably the most astounding basso-profundo EVER to sing the blues.
Here, on this all-acoustic 2003 release, he delivers his most intense and personal set yet.
"Does It All" presents a selection of new Drink Small originals plus some vintage black gospel numbers for good measure. "The Blues Doctor" (his moniker since the dawn of his career) performs stunningly on National steel guitar and piano, with vocal backing on several tracks. It's a lively set - part juke joint, part backwoods church.
Absolutely recommended for all fans of acoustic blues.
NOTE FROM DRINK'S MANAGEMENT: This CD is indefinitely out of print. We encourage you to buy downloads and/or mps3s.

Rough magic...like a storyteller entertaining a circle of listeners around a fir
author: Bill Wasserzieher, Blues Revue
There is a rough magic to Drink Small's performances. Whether accompanying himself on guitar or barrelhouse piano, he fills the space like a storyteller entertaining a circle of listeners around a fire. Drink Small is real...and that counts!

A knock-out set, as real as it gets
author: Norman Darwen (Blues & Rhythm, UK)
He has gone back to his roots, alone in the studio with his National Steel guitar...and the nearest comparison is the field recordings of the '60s and '70s. A knockout set, as authentic as it gets and well worth the effort to track it down if your interests focus on the REAL blues and country gospel.

Drink Small, the blues doctor, will surely heal us, his patients with this CD. Accompanying himself on piano or guitar with occasional vocal backup from Mamie Roberts and Preston Rivers he treats us with everything from downhome blues to gospel. My personal favourites being Bingo lover and the gospel numbers at the end, Glory, glory and Roll, Jordan, roll. This is a record full of warmth and humour, so don't hesitate, buy it and you're really gonna have a great time together with Drink Small.
