Album Notes

If Tom Waits and Tracy Chapman had a "love-child" and the godparents were Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell, and he was baptized on a piano played by Ray Charles then "dr j" would do the circumcision (FOR FREE!!!)

This multi-instrumentalist's debut CD offers an eclectic mix as diverse as easy listening folk ballads to comedy blues - from multi-layered synthesizer/vocal tracts to acoustic piano and percussive acappella (Adult contemporary "with a bite" as one critic said).

dr j is a riveting live performing artist who has a lifetime of international music (theatre/radio/television/movie) experience.

In the studio he "breaks all the BIG HIT rules" delivering original sounding, formula/cliche free music. Intelligent and poetic lyrics, non-traditional musical arrangements and a voice "that-doesn't-sound-like-it-should-come-from-a-five-foot-six-inch-white-guy" provide a prescription mixture that dr j calls his own.

A "must have" CD from a very unusual Canadian singer-songwriter!!

With his trademark razor wit, dr j doesn't hesitate to add - "LET THE MUSIC HEAL YOU...............or die!!!!"

mezmorizing, growing on me - haunting me

A fascinating mix of intelligent, sometimes sparse lyrics/slick production/mellow, occ. edgy vocals. Not really sure who I could compare him too, certainly original musical stylings. The more I listen, the more I like it - particularly the ballads which keep humming around in my head. Great debut CD, would definitely buy the next one.

unique style, crossing the spectrum
author: D. P.
dr j has created a unique combination of music and lyrics which crosses the spectrum of musical style. His rich voice has excellent range which allows him to go from down-out rocking blues all the way to quieter, more introspective looks into life. He is a wizard on the piano and keyboards and winds up the harmonica to produce a refreshing instrumental mix. A "must-get" for people who appreciate music with some substance.

This disc offers a taste of heaven, a sneak preview while floating on a cloud. The ballads are legendary and the blues is rocking. Great sound and production keeping the simplicity and importance of musicality throughout.
