Album Notes

DR NIGEL was born Neil Gregory Larson. He hails from Boston, Massachusetts and currently resides just outside the city. He has been producing music since the mid 90s, and has recently released his first-ever EP album, "Seeing in Squares." Dr Nigel's music, which carries influences of breakbeat, trip-hop, trance, jazz and ambient styles, always retains a steady groove.

Larson currently performs in Boston with two touring acts: Amun Ra and Nikulydin. Amun Ra is a 5-piece ensemble mixing styles of soulful breakbeat with an electronic jazz-blues-rock edge. The band, fronted by vocalist Emily Fisher, has just released their first full-length album, "Bloom," and can be found on the web at www.amunramusic.com.

Nikulydin is an all-electronic 7-piece live-trance ensemble whose music seeks to emulate a DJ's repertoire. It is an improvisatory exploration into the electronic realm of dance music. Nikulydin can be seen on the web at www.nikulydin.com.

Dr Nigel is planning a series of live performances in the Northeast, to support this EP release. He maintains his website www.drnigel.net where he keeps record of his past performances as well as upcoming events and projects. Dr Nigel also looks forward to the release of his first full-length record, "Isolated," which will feature 16 original tracks. A follow-up LP has also been constructed and planned for release. Meanwhile Dr Nigel continues full-throttle producing music at his "Studio Squared" in Somerville, Mass., while spending his free time performing with Amun Ra and Nikulydin.

this is better than a martini

It's sick, Earl! It's really sick. Remember, when we came out to see some fresh beats from Groove Armada at Avalon and were ultimately disappointed because somebody spilled a martini on my orange three-piece velvet suit? This stuff, Earl, is much sicker. More twisted. Ill'er, if I must say! I want more! Who is this Dr. Nigel anyways? I'd let this dude re-wire my toaster any day. And, I bet, he doesn't spill his martini. Ever.

Warped and Inviting

This is twisted music, but not the bad kind of twisted. It's not free-form and it's not avant-garde, and I guess I'd call it electronica but there's no real genre to place it in. At times I'm reminded of Avalanches, and other times I think of Four Tet. Dips from stuttery trip-hop to 80s-influenced-breakbeat to cut-up sampled IDM. Great beats all around! I'd definitely like to hear more stuff from DrNigel.

Length of Effect:: Tracks 1-6 Effects: Extremely intense aural hallucinations,

the first time i listened to this album was on a long drive across the state. i was immediately transported back to my earlier days of psychedlic induced trips. the album is a journey from that first moment of anticipation for it to "kick in" to the strange places and euphoria one encounters along the way. the varied spectrum of instruments and sound have been mixed perfectly for your aural hallucination pleasures.
