Dr O'Kay began his formal language-teaching career at the tender age of 20, teaching Korean-language for the US government at the US Defense Language Institute, Monterey, California. Being the first non-native speaker EVER to teach there, he pioneered a program (in 1967-68) for Assistant Instructors which is still in effect to this day.

This may be well and good, but its also true that Mrs Beatrice Schwartz, his Sacramento High School French teacher, was infuriated with him on more than one occasion because of his insouciant attitude, lackadaisical work-ethic and, uhm, general refusal to do homework. He nearly failed French I, and did only marginally better in French II.

So it was a pleasant change to be winning in Korean, at a time when going to Korea kept O'Kay OUT of VietNam! His momma didn't raise no fool!

Between his honorable discharge from the Army Security Agency (similar to National Security Agency, but more military) and the present day, O'Kay began pre-medical studies in California, earned his doctorate in Iowa, returned to Korea, helped Korean construction companies build a 142-bed hospital in Saudi Arabia, went to Thailand, taught himself Thai and Issan (a Lao/Thai dialect distinct from Thai AND Lao) and found his wife.

Now into his 17th consecutive year in Thailand, July 2003 marks the beginning of his 18th year in-country and his 13th year of wedded bliss.

All this is background for why Dr O'Kay took the time to put together an audiotape and a CD of Easy-Learning Tips, Tricks and Techniques, aimed at Thais studying English (ESL). With more than 15,000 hours of ESL teaching time over the last 37 years, Dr O'Kay is eager to share EZ-Learning Tips with ALL students of a language, because learning languages opens doors to the hearts and minds of good people around the world!
