“ Scotland ’s 3rd best band for 2009 … more hooks than Bob Nudd’s fishing bag” The Scotsman.
“Songs that capture a power pop spirit tinged with a country edge, shimmering guitars and vocal harmonies recall classic California bands and more local contemporaries such as Teenage Fanclub and Daniel Wylie” Americana UK.
Dropkick was formed by brothers Andrew and Alastair Taylor at school in a small town on the east coast of Scotland around 10 years ago. Starting off as a punk-pop band, the brothers discovered the music of The Jayhawks, The Byrds and Wilco and their sound gradually matured into more of an alt-country style but without losing the upbeat, catchy melodies of their songs. Since their self-titled debut album in 2001, they have had a succession of critically acclaimed releases on their own Taylored Records label. The latest of these “Dot The i” was released in March 2008 and has now been re-issued by Spanish label Rock Indiana Records. The band’s current album “Patchwork” was their first to be released on Swedish label Sound Asleep Records.
Dropkick’s 9th album “Abelay Hotel” is released on 12th September 2009. Named after a hotel the band stayed in during their headline tour of Spain earlier this year, the album not only enhances their reputation as being Scotland’s most prolific band, but also strengthens their claim to be “Scotland’s finest alt-country power-pop band.” (Tom Morton, BBC Radio Scotland ).
