Unbelievably good - and all improvised?!?
author: Fred Allsworth
This is the second record I've bought by Drop Trio, and I was totally surprised by it (in a good way). It's a departure from their first record, in terms of sound and approach; but more than that, the record is completely *improvised*. I read about that on the back of the CD ("this CD is entirely improvised") and didn't believe it, but after checking out the band's web site, it seems to be true - the whole record made up on the spot in the studio. If that's true, these guys are mad geniuses. The record is kinda hard to get your head around at first - starts off ambient but then kicks it in the ass by track 2 and barely stops until the end. My fav. track is #5, but they're all pretty unique and good in their own ways. I've never really heard anything quite like it, it's sort of a cross between MMW and Emerson Lake and Palmer, if you can believe that. Way to go guys, I'll be watching you in the future.
