Album Notes

The Lemonheads boasted some of the coolest jangly pop and one of the most compelling front men of the 90's - and the music of Evan Dando and The Lemonheads continue to entertain fans old and new today.

In honor of the fantastic music Dando & the gang created Double D Records presents "Drug Buddies: A Tribute To The Lemonheads". Featuring 21 tracks - with 20 covers and 1 original paying homage to the enigma that is Evan Dando ("Evan Says"), the album is packed with music (literally not one more song could fit on the disc)!

There are a lot of different takes on Lemonheads' songs (and some covers of the most famous songs that The Lemonheads themselves covered: "Frank Mills" and "Into Your Arms"). The first and quasi-title track "My Drug Buddy" is a cool-vibe version that will definitely get stuck in your head (just like the original, yet different)! The female-fronted band Lucky Day offers up a dreamy vocaled version of "Bit Part", and Weatherspoon turns "Ride With Me" into a straight-up rocker. Fans of The Lemonheads will be compelled to compare and contrast these covers to the originals!

The album took over two years to produce and features bands from all over the globe. If you own (or ever owned, or heck borrowed and never gave back) a Lemonheads album you will probably dig these tunes. There is only one Evan Dando but his songs continue to entertain - check out an album full of bands who count The Lemonheads as an influence, give "Drug Buddies" a listen!

Surprisingly great!

As a huge fan of the Lemonheads, I stumbled across this CD when googling for cover versions of their songs. I just had to get a hold of this and check it out. The first track (My Drug Buddy) jumps right out at you - it is really funky, acoustic version with a great sound. I love the assortment of songs chosen - sure there are some tracks I wish they had included that aren't here but that is to be expected. The inclusion of "Into Your Arms" which every Lemonheads fan knows isn't a Lemonheads original is very fitting: this is the song that really made a lot of people fans of the band and this is a very relaxing version that I enjoy very much. The last track is an original tribute to Evan Dando by the band Mean Carlene and is very much in keeping with the tone of the album. This album surprised me - in a good way - and I have to give it 5 stars! I really recommend this for fans of the Lemonheads!
