THE DRUGSTORE COWGIRLS:
"The Drugstore Cowgirls: Fathers of the current Hollywood rock revival." - Mike Moore, Music Connection
"The best live show I've seen in ten years." - Steve Lindsay, Blotter Publishing
It seems as though no matter where you go in the local Hollywood Music scene you're bound to come home with a crumpled, photo-copied flyer in your purse or pocket, and chances are it was handed to you by a member of The Drugstore Cowgirls, promoting an upcoming show. These guys are out every night.
The Drugstore Cowgirls are a power trio--Dirty Little Pedro (Pedro Shanahan) on bass and vocals, Destin Clover- guitar and vocals, and Keith Roenke on drums and occasional keyboards. Born from the fertile L.A. open-mike circuit, The Drugstore Cowgirls blend the experimental ambience of Radiohead with the sand-between-your-toes realness of Sublime into a refreshingly straight-ahead rock and roll sound all their own.
The Drugstore Cowgirls have used DIY tactics, playing a free weekly residency at Canters Kibitz Room in Hollywood and self-releasing their debut CD Fine Wine and Spirits,to build an impressive following.
Currently on rotation on KXLU 88.9 FM and available upon request on Indie 103.1 FM, The Drugstore Cowgirls are making their mark on the airwaves as well.
The Drugstore Cowgirls continue to contribute to the flourishing L.A. Music Scene playing clubs such as Spaceland, Star Shoes, and the Knitting Factory often and are currently working on songs for their second self-released CD, tentatively titled "What the fuck Mr. President."
