In the summer of 2007, songwriter David Seale and novelist R. Murff embarked on a unique, groundbreaking creative venture: as Murff constructed his new novel and sent drafts to Seale, Seale would write and record an album of songs, and both would be released at the same time as companions to each other, something unprecedented.
One yearlater in the summer of 2008, the connection between fiction and music comes full circle with the release of One Last Hour, a collection of nine rootsy, power pop songs inspired by the R. Murff novel.
Intertwined with the themes of redemption, despair, greed, and hope, the album traces the novel’s path cross the bond business and the great Southern city of Memphis, and follows protagonist Billy Pitt as he deals with divorce, excommunication, and job insecurity, and finally discovers the inner strength to turn it all around.
From the addictive pop of “Money Theme” to the dark loneliness of “Walls”, from the gentle mood of “Grace” to the electric hooks of “Molly” and “A Bold Rewrite”, from the strains of blue-eyed soul in “Look What You’ve Done” and the playful “Memphis” to the alt-country vibes in “One Last Time” and “How Did I Get Here?”, the CD provides the perfect backdrop for an engaging novel from one of America’s emerging literary talents.
The album is further enhanced by the musical talents of Vulture Whale’s Les Nuby (electric guitars) and Wes McDonald (drums and percussion), as well as the contribution of 3 Hour Tour on “Money Theme”. OLH was produced and recorded in Birmingham, AL, and mastered in Athens GA.
While this album certainly stands alone as a collection of fabulously entertaining SouthPop songs, adding it to the album makes for a unique artistic experience. Try both today!
