Album Notes

"Made with love, like a fine quilt. With each square a story sewed of many colors. A true joy!"
-Stacey Earle and Mark Stuart

“The honesty in their lyrics and in the overall sound of their songs drew me in from the beginning. After one listen, I knew these folks were kindred spirits; after experiencing a live performance, I felt like part of their family--in the best possible way.”

-Bill Baldwin, presenter, The Gravity Lounge
"...(their) music is as honest and heartfelt as they are. Their integrity and commitment to their craft shines through on this album, which I was very happy to be a part of.”
-Eamon McLoughlin of The Greencards

Doug and Telisha Williams embody the true Southern songwriting tradition that so many others try to imitate. They approach their music with contagious energy, inviting, open personalities, and honest grit. First timers at their live shows feel like old friends and part of the family after just a song or two.

With countless touring miles and one record under their belt, the duo has just finished work on a second release with a stellar group of musicians including Darrell Scott, Dennis Crouch, Kenny Malone and Eamon McLoughlin. With Miles Wilkinson producing, this project promises to really be something great. The target date for setting this one free is early 2006.

“I’m excited about this record, it’s very honest, almost raw,” says Doug, “Some of these songs come from pretty shadowy places.” Of course, it isn’t all dark and depressing, “There are a couple of happy songs! Even a love song, and it’s honest, too!” notes Telisha.

Telisha and Doug, now married and living in Southwest Virginia, have been playing music together since both of them were in high school. Now fourteen years later they have emerged with the passion and energy of a true calling. It was a partnership that was meant to be- in more ways than one. Telisha’s crystal-clear voice can float like a butterfly on a mountain breeze or thunder like a freight train, and Doug’s guitar playing lays the perfect foundation for either.

The past year has seen a lot of doors open for Doug and Telisha and the future looks to be even more promising for the duo. There is a strong sense of urgency and purpose. Doug and Telisha are looking forward to touring and traveling as much as possible in support of their new record.

REVIEWS

fab old school voice with alt sensibility
author: suzanne
Telisha Williams is pure country - that kind of hilly voice that Loretta and Dolly brought to us. Super modern sensibility, lots of fun lyrics. Great alt country, modern in tone, but this CD in particular has a fabulous 'recorded in the living room' honest kind of feel.

Rope Around My Heart? Rope around my EARS!!! Love it!!
author: Eric
The 12 tunes on this disc have a familiar quality about them – tales of loves gone wrong, honky tonks, family disfunctionality, music industry sarcasm, and reflections about the “the good ol’ days”. For me, the highlight of the cd is the title track – a true love song that’s as sweet of a story (girl meets boy, girl falls for boy, girl and boy live happily ever after) as the sweet sparkle in the voice of Telisha as she sings the tale. On the opposite end of the spectrum is “Shirt On A Rack” – a song that made me sad, made me cry, made me angry and made me cry again – all before the second verse began. This husband/wife duo from the hills of Southwest Virginia (not to be confused with South West Virginia) call their music “Fuel Injected Folk”. Which it is. But I’m hoping it will be called the first of many, many great collections of songs from this bright, energetic musical twosome.

Music, real and true

If you like really fine alt country, roots or folk with a Southern flavor, you'll really enjoy Doug and Telisha. There are great musicians accompanying them on this project, but the songs themselves - most of them original - really engaged me and took me to other places with the stories they told.
