Album Notes

Dr. Kerry Walker is Professor of Flute at Western Connecticut State University as well as Principal Flutist with the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra. She performs with the Ives Orchestra, the All-New England Orchestra and with chamber groups: Ridge Winds, Prometheus, and Dual Excursions. Dr. Walker's degrees are from The University of Michigan, Bowling Green State University, and Texas Tech University. Walker's instructors have included, Julius Baker, (with whom she performed duo recitals in 1995 and 2000) Judith Bentley, Geoffrey Gilbert, Michael Stoune, Carl St. Clair, and Robert Spano. She has performed under many reputable conductors including Fennell, Revelli, Entremont, Schneider, and Page. While maintaining her flute studio, Dr. Walker directs The Julius Baker Master Classes and The National High School Flute Institute, both held annually on the Mid-town campus of Western Connecticut State University. Walker is a Yamaha performing artist and clinician.

David Smith is Professor of Percussion at Western Connecticut State University. He holds degrees from Mansfield State College and East Carolina University. He holds the position of Principal Percussionist with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra (NHSO). In addition to the NHSO, Mr. Smith has performed with several other orchestras and has given many solo percussion recitals throughout Connecticut and New York He has performed several World Premiers including two compositions by Milton Babbitt; Beaten Paths for Solo Marimba and Homily for solo snare drum at the Percussive Arts Society International Conference. He has recorded on CRI and Desto Records and has performed with the Paul Whiteman Band with conductor Maurice Peress. Mr. Smith is a frequent clinician at music education conventions and also for music teachers in many school systems throughout Connecticut and New York State. He is a Zildjian Artist and a Yamaha Performing Artist.
