Album Notes

Relaxing solo Shakuhachi music.

On top of playing the shakuhachi flute and many ethnic instruments of origin such as the Indian flutes, native American Idian, Irish, Indian, Chinese and Morrocan oboes, Michel Dubeau is an accomplished player on saxophone, flute and clarinet in a number of musical styles.

Shakuhachi music (Japanese bamboo flute).
This is a collection of tunes either composed by Michel or drawn from the classic repertoire of the honkyoku type, at the same time zen, contemporary and introspective.

Michel started learning shakuhachi in 1988 with the teacher Masumoto Yoshio. In 2000, he was awarded a grant from the 'Conseil des Arts et des Lettres' to study the Jin Nyodo style with the Master Ronnie Nyogetsu Reishin Seldin. Since then, Michel has carried on his studies with Kurahashi Yoshio and Master Seldin.
