Kosmopterix
author: Dave Chapman
For anyone who is familiar with Dubravko's work and for those that are yet to be astonished by the ability and dedication to the didgeridoo, this IS an album for you.
I recall when I first became aware of Du, through YouTube and his Stinkirum videos, I first thought of Ondrej Smeykal and the apparent influences. However, the more I have listened and heard from Du, the more I know now, that Du has taken the instrument to a higher level, that he quite literally composes music rather than just technically demanding rhythms.
Post Stinkirum, I had been waiting very patiently and anxiously to hear what Du could create that would add to his extraordinary debut, and at the DHRF in the Isle of Wight, I and the gathered many, were not disappointed.
Throughout this cd there are (I am running out of superlatives!) frankly, genius, inventive ways of creating not just rhythm, but music, utilising the 'parallel playing' technique Du is pioneering. Using a singing voice coupled with the multi-tonal toots, dropping straight into unfathomable rhythms and back again, rhythm changes and yet all makes complete sense to the ear. A personal favourite is at the end of Putnik, where there is a seamless change from what appears to be a very fast drone rhythm (although I am led to understand that the entire track utilises toots and no drone) into a much higher toot but maintaining the rhythm. Jaw dropping stuff.
If you are an experienced player, you will understand, if you are a novice, you will want to know more, if you are neither you will marvel.
Simply Brilliant.

Songs from Space
author: Pamela Mortensen
There are a lot of good didgeridoo albums out there and then there are those that are great. Kosmopterix ranks in the latter category. Dubravko has put together a collection of songs ("creatures" he calls them) that dive into the imagination on the inside and the universe on the outside using extra long didgeridoos as his voice. It's an amazing collection that I never get bored listening to because he has taken the time to craft each song to be its own. He draws from many different worlds in music using piano, guitar, vocals and even a typewriter and sets the story with each song. Any listener can be appreciative of this kind skill with any instrument but didgeridoo is particularly challenging since it seems limited when it comes to playing melodies. Dubravko breaks those limits and coaxes melodies and more out of the didgeridoo, taking the listener on a journey through space and time. That's why I can safely say that my copy of the CD hasn't seen the inside of its case since I bought it. If you like your didgeridoo music to be something a little different then I highly recommend Kosmopterix. It’s simply beautiful.

Kosmopterix opens gates to new worlds
author: Didgewood
Kosmopterix takes me into the deep unknown. Every time I listen I discover new sounds and . Its like a rollercoaster of music and sounds. Like a rollercoaster you want to go in again and again. It is a bit scary and dark but when I leave the ship I have this feeling of comfort and safety. This music sucked me into a new world of rhythm. Du's playing techniques are superb, one of kind. As a musician I envy him. As a didgeplayer I thank him for his inspiring music. This CD opens gates to new worlds. Tnx DU
