“It’s a well-known fact that we here at XLR8R have a soft spot for dub. Who doesn’t? But Dub Trio has taken that soft spot and ripped it to shreds with their potent blend of blisteringly heavy rock and dub conventions.

Dub Trio will rock your world! It’s just that simple. DT is one of the few bands that can just kill it live every time, and this album is a testament to that. They combine some of the hardest rock this side of late ‘70s early ‘80s punk (ala Bad Brains- no joke) and they come at you hard from the dub side as well- these boys do it all live (no soundboy- no overdubs). Recordings made during sold-out shows at NYC’s historic Union Pool. “Cool Out And Coexistâ€, Dub Trio’s third album, is their hardest hitting to date. Even after recording w/ Mike Patton on last year’s underground hit “Not Alone†(on DT’s “New Heavyâ€), which is reminiscent of Patton’s work with Faith No More, we’re positive “Cool Out†rocks even harder.
ROIR has a long history of working with artists in a live setting (Television, MC5, Bush Tetras, James Chance, Flipper, etc.). We firmly believe that a live recording is the only way to capture the raw visceral energy that is generated by the tension created between the crowd and an artist. Recorded by Studio G engineers, the sound is fierce and awesome. And very tight.
“In all languages this music simply rocks.†The Wire
Dub Trio has played more than 150 dates over the past year, touring with Clutch, Gogol Bordello, Skindred, and Mike Patton (both opening the night and playing in his band Peeping Tom as the rhythm section), and had the honor & privilege of sharing the stage with the Bad Brains during CBGB’s closing week. Over the last two years they’ve opened & toured w/ Meat Beat Manifesto, Capleton, Prefuse 73, Soulive and MC Beans. DT has appeared on WNYC’s nationally syndicated show, Soundcheck, with John Schaefer.
“ridiculously talented, versatile musicians who between them have done session & live work w/ G-Unit, Fugees, Mobb Deep & others – craft an exhilarating mash-up of hyperspeed thrash-punk w/ King Tubby-esque dub/roots reggae atmospherics. Always in full control & able to shift on a dime, they’re almost like an updated, yet instrumental, version of Bad Brains.†-SF Weekly

While nothing completely replaces a live show, Dub Trio captures the very next best thing on Cool Out and Coexist. After attending their recent cd release show in Brooklyn, I'm pretty amazed by their ability to present their songs truly and with all the intensity of their previous two studio albums. Luckily, this live production is pretty much bereft of the audience chatter and sub-par production that plagues many live records. Their new songs (Who Wants to Die, Untitled, Extract, Jog On) give a tease of what's to come by this immensely talented trio. For those of y'all who have never seen DT, grab this one up. Big up!
