Finally, after two years of work, Duckdive's debut album 'Stories for Another Day' will be released through Laughing Outlaw Records. Duckdive are an indie folk eight piece. Their album is a mix of beautiful quirky songs that is sure to have you humming along.
Based around the work of Melbourne singer/songwriter Marisa Brown, Duckdive had humble beginnings as an acoustic duo back in 2003. Over the years, Duckdive evolved into an 8-piece band featuring guitars, violin, trumpet, banjo, harmonica, beautiful harmonies and string arrangements. They're an odd mix of musicians, yet somehow they've managed to fuse their folk/acoustic/rock/ classical/comedy/ techno/country backgrounds to create a distinctive, original sound. Sorta folk, sorta pop, sorta rock, sometimes sweet and sometimes sad, but always different, this maxi band, mini orchestra are an act like no other.
Recorded at The Electric Co (Duckdive's own studio), 'Stories for Another Day' was mixed by Nick Larkins (Wild Pumpkins at Midnight, Dan Rumour Band) at Beatnik Bunker, and then mastered by Martin Pullan at Edensound Studios.
'Stories for Another Day' follows on from Duckdive's debut EP 'Under the Surface', independently released in 2004, and their cross continental single 'What's With The Weather?', recorded between London and Melbourne during Marisa's time overseas. This track received airplay on Triple R, Triple J and local stations, as well as making it to 'Single of the Week' in Beat Magazine.
The album is already gaining critical acclaim, with the first single, Sleeptaker, being described as:
"A song with real drama, genuine warmth, and a captivating vocal. Sublime." (Jeff Jenkins, Inpress Magazine)
With a 2007 Australian tour currently being scheduled and a 2008 UK tour in the works, Duckdive's star is most certainly on the rise.
