Album Notes

"Dudley Moore is riotously funny." Not familiar with 'Die Flabbergast'? Dudley Moore is. (from The New York Times)
***
"Dudley Moore--Live From an Aircraft Hangar" is Dudley Moore at his absolute best in his last CD, which he produced as President of Martine Avenue Productions, Inc., his own company.

The CD features Moore performing in all 24 tracks. Played at the Royal Albert Hall in London, which Dudley Moore affectionately called an "Aircraft Hangar," this program was recorded during Moore's highly acclaimed 1992 concert tour that included music he wrote for films and comedy, as well as jazz and riotous musical parodies.

The CD features Moore as pianist and composer, as soloist and with the Dudley Moore Trio and the BBC Concert Orchestra. There is much laughter as Moore introduces some of the pieces, the audience responding enthusiastically to this beloved artist's wit and humor. Moore donated the proceeds from the CD to Music For All Seasons (which takes live music into facilities where people could not otherwise hear it) and to the Dudley Moore Research Fund for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, which sadly took Dudley's life on March 27, 2002. Proceeds from the CD continue to go to both charities.

About Dudley Moore:

Dudley Moore was one of the most beloved and versatile artists of our time. Actor, comedian, pianist, composer, conductor, and vocalist, Moore was renowned for his work in all these areas. Best known to the public for his leading roles in smash hits such as "Arthur," "10," "Foul Play," "Unfaithfully Yours," and many others, he was internationally loved by his audience.

Before starting his acting career, Moore's first love was music. A highly-trained classical musician, he studied violin and organ at the Guildhall School of Music in London and attended Magdalen College at Oxford University as a scholarship student. His acclaimed musical performances and recordings included classical, jazz and popular styles.

Moore first came to the United States in 1962 with the innovative revue "Beyond the Fringe," which was a hit on Broadway. The satire featured Moore with Peter Cook, Jonathan Miller and Alan Bennet. In 1981, he performed "A Salute to George Gershwin" with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl, and in 1983 resumed a classical career that took him around the globe as piano soloist with major orchestras.

Excellent!! Dudley's musical expertise truly shines here. The fact that it's live makes it even more special. I enjoy the spontaneity and hearing him tell the background stories to the music he wrote. I missed all his live performances and this album makes me feel like I was there. I enjoy his other albums, but so far this one's my favorite!
