CHRIS DUDLEY (countertenor), a native of Great Britain, former Chorister at St. George’s Windsor Castle, and Choral Scholar at Norwich Cathedral, came to the US in 2001 after attaining a BA in Music from the University of East Anglia. A graduate of the Masters of Music, Performance & Pedagogy Program of the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins, Chris has been in great demand as a chorus and solo singer in the Washington DC area. He is currently a Lay Clerk at Washington National Cathedral and St. Paul's K Street, both in the USA. In 2005, Chris made a CD with his quartet, the Countertop Quartet, a group where he and Nick Pepin are co-founding singers. Chris still resides in the USA, where he continues to sing and teach professionally
NICK PEPIN has held Lay Clerk positions as countertenor in many British cathedrals including Durham, Portsmouth, and most recently Winchester, where he sang on numerous recordings, including a disk of Gibbons verse anthems with Hyperion. He sings regularly as a soloist in oratorio, especially Bach and Handel, having appeared in the U.K. with the London Festival Orchestra, the London Mozart Players, The Northern Sinfonia, the Parley of Instruments, the Bournemouth Sinfonietta, the Bach Choir and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. He is a member of the early music group Polyhymnia, specialising in Spanish renaissance repertoire. Nick has given many recitals, accompanied by his mother, June Clark, in his own group ‘Pennine Parnassus’, both in Europe and the USA. In 2004 Nick became a founder member of the upper- voice Countertop Quartet where he also met Chris Dudley. This is his third solo CD, following “Gentle Springs” and “Let Us Light a Candle”.
JUNE CLARK studied at the Royal Academy of Music and worked as a composer with Alan Bush, with her first works published while still a student. As a pianist she studied with Cyril Smith, making her debut as a duo pianist with Joan Ryall during the 1958 Wagner Festival in Bayreuth. An international piano career followed with the BBC, and with appearances at major festivals. In 1967 the duo won First Prize in the International Competition for Interpreters of Contemporary Music in Utrecht. To date her published works number 35 and centre on choral and piano composition and arrangements for voices, several of which feature on all three CDs.
