Album Notes

A work of great depth and beauty; dark and deep; intellectual Southern Gothic. The lyrics and music transport you to another sphere. Sophisticated, intelligent songs- intimately and emotionally sung and played by one of Louisiana’s premier singer/songwriters, pianists, and performers, “Cabaret Vieux Carre” stands among the best of Doug Duffey’s works.

Taken from 3 different solo recording sessions done in New Orleans and Monroe, Louisiana between 1988-1992, the songs were recorded “live” in the studio in one take. As soon as one song was performed/recorded- and checked by the engineer- he went on to the next one; his preferred way of recording… and performing. These recordings are as close to a live Doug Duffey solo concert as you can get.

Doug Duffey is a member of the Louisiana Hall of Fame & the National Blues Hall of Fame.

Doug Duffey- vocal/acoustic grand piano
Recorded at Ultrasonic Studios, New Orleans; JY Recording Studio, West Monroe, LA; and The John Cale Studio, Monroe, LA.
All songs written, arranged, performed and produced by Doug Duffey [except: House of the Rising Sun- Traditional- adapted & arranged by Doug Duffey]
All songs published by Doug Duffey Music, BMI

"Duffey is a musician's musician- an artist who lives his art. His commitment to, and love for, what he does provides a marvelous focal point for both his recordings and live performances. Both are worth checking out!" --- Michael Keckhaver, Arts & Entertainment

Cabaret View Carre is truly a gift - a work of art. "Love Comes" and "Where There Is Love" are masterpieces, and EVERY song is a treasure. Intimate, eloquent, and beautiful lyrics, and of course, no one plays the piano like Doug Duffey. This is a powerful CD. I'm so glad I discovered Doug Duffey's music. What an extraodinarily talented artist!

RE: CD of Solo Sessions 1988-1992. The VERY best of Doug Duffey. He has helped restore my love of words with his picturesque and insightful lyrics. Love this. Just a piano, his words and his voice is all that is required with this jewel of a CD. To add or take away more would be like taking away the heart of it all. I would definitely recommend this music to all. It is a bit different from most of the other music we have heard him perform, but it is so real. Can't get enough of it.
