Donna Dufresne’s latest work, Tango with the Moon, is a double disc CD featuring fifteen songs and eleven novelettes, written to represent the songs in story form. The novelettes which tell the make-believe film noir stories behind the songs were written by Dufresne and recorded with sound effects and instrumental music in the background. Tango with the Moon is more than a simple recording of original songs. It is a work of art that spans the medium of storytelling in all of its modalities - a little music, a little theater, a little social commentary and feminist theory, wrapped in a brilliant package. If the listener is careful to take their time in unwrapping this unusual gift, they may find the compass to their own heart.
