Music by Jamie Dunphy, words by Drew Dunphy. This humorous and moving piece was composed while Jamie Dunphy was living in Boston and Drew Dunphy was living in New York City. Creating a working version mostly via the U.S. mail, the two brothers brought in bassist/guitarist Greg Passler and drummer Tony D'Anna for initial performances in Massachusetts (Jamie, Greg and Tony form the Boston-based jazz group, The Mill City Trio). Through additional workshops and concerts in New York and New Jersey, the performers loosened up, and began to incorporate more improvisation into the piece, creating a spontaneous work that's surprisingly different every time. This studio recording captures one of the best performances of The Syncopated Bird. Beautifully recorded by Brian Charles at Zippah Studios in Brookline MA, the CD was mastered by legendary engineer Toby Mountain.
