Album Notes

CANTICO - this critically acclaimed recording by DUO ARIOSO serves up a feast of Early Music, sumptuously arranged for flutes & harps. Flavored in the Renaissance tradition, CANTICO features lively & familiar works from the 13th to the 17th Centuries such as 'Estampie', 'Salterello', 'Hey, Ho, Nobody Home', 'The Cutty Wren' and a rousing rendition of Henry Purcell's 'Hornpipe'. Romantically reflective selections are here as well, with the timeless melodies of 'Robin', 'Light O Love'/'Romance', 'Three Ravens'/'Turtledoves' and the 16th Century classic 'To Drive The Cold Winter Away'. These flavorful arrangements include a unique array of instrumentation such as the alto flute, flute, piccolo, the concert pedal harp, celtic & lap harps, as well as cello and various period percussion. CANTICO is truly a musical delight for all tastes!

DUO ARIOSO - features Flautist-Michelle Matsumune and Harpist-Melinda Johnson. This exciting musical duo maintains a varied repetoire of music ranging from early music to contemporary classics. Ms. Matsumune holds an MFA in Flute Performance from The California Institute for the Arts, while Ms. Johnson holds a BA in Music Performance & an MFA in Film from The American Film Institute. In addition to DUO ARIOSO, Michelle & Melinda are professional musicians who teach, record & perform extensively throughout Southern California.

Michelle's flute sound is truly mesmorizing! What a gorgeous player! The CDs selections are creative and exciting ... so very much different than the run-of-the-mill compilations so often put out there. Michelle and Melinda blend as if they've played together all their lives! Another really fine CD I'm happy to have in my collection.

Traditional Instruments And Songs Make A Lovely Mix of Music
author: Amphian

The blending of instruments produces a CD that is quiet and relaxing without being boring. This is exactly the kind of traditional music you might hear in a quiet spot at a Renaissance faire. The performances and sound quality are excellent with a nice mix of tempos and types of pieces, but I would like to see credit given for the percussion. The notes on the songs are brief, but provide a nice context for each piece.
