Album Notes

What was originally planned as a duo in the summer of 2000, ultimately became a meeting of these three virtuosos: acoustic guitarist Oliver Waitze, mandolin player Jesper Rübner and double bassist Max Schaaf. “Swing that music\" is their musical motto, and it is impressively demonstrated on \"A Jazzy Note\".
All three musicians contribute a very rich body of experience. Waitze is a soloist, a multi-instrumentalist, author of textbooks and cofounder of the guitar specialty shop in the town of Solingen, New Acoustic Gallery. Rübner enjoys an excellent reputation as a skilled workshop author and as an experienced musician who has no qualms about engaging bluegrass, classical, jazz and or folk music. Schaaf, in turn, has earned fame as a top sideman playing besides the Gypsy-swing master guitarist Joscho Stephan.
Together, the three musicians amalgamate their qualities as a \"vibrating trio\" to form an extremely entertaining musical ménage à trois. And they demonstrate stylistic versatility in the process, a high level of virtuosity and enormous joy at playing, with a repertoire that consists of hot swing, Brazilian choro and traditional bluegrass. This triumvirate shows a great deal of spirit with traditionals such as “David”, stylish adaptations of the Django Reinhardt classic “Douce Ambiance”, or in the good-humored interpretation of the old favorite “Panhandle Rag”. Harmonies are woven together with elegance, the melody passes skillfully between the mandolin and the guitar and is always well cared for by a vigorous double bass, which also uses its free time to take off on solo excursions. This makes “A Jazzy Note” a musical delight that is bound to thrill acoustic music fans.
