Album Notes

Dreams are full of images and sounds…Let your dreams guide your journey...
We are each the scriptwriter, creator, and producer of our dream-images. I started to pay more attention to my inner-world and feelings by analyzing my dreams. I have learned the importance of dreams to understand my inner world in my own life journey. I realized that my psyche was trying to communicate with my consciousness through the images, feelings, and stories expressed in my dreams. Carl G. Jung’s studies on dreams helped me to explore to my unconscious. I was a graduate student at the University of Texas at Dallas working towards an MFA degree and began to explore this mysterious dream language using sounds. Track 6–Dreamscape is a sound design of my own sleeping time dream. I wanted to include my original dreamscape in this music album to inspire the ones who is interested to explore their dreams through sounds. This new album of music that I produced has helped me to heal my own psychic wounds through sounds. My music represents my inner being inspired by sounds of dreams, as well as by familiar sounds that surround me such as Istanbul, Dallas, and friends. I believe I have found a way of transferring them to symbolic representations, which are musical notations.

As a cross-cultural musician, I have blended my cultural roots with contemporary jazz and funk beats. I started this journey in 1999 with Ayhan Sicimoglu in Istanbul Turkey, and studied Afro-Cuban rhythms. From performing with Las Estrellas in Istanbul under Ayhan Sicimoglu's Afro-Cuban Project, I’ve continued my journey in Dallas performing with different musicians in Latin, Jazz, Rock, Folk and Funk styles since 2004, along with my own band “Duriye & Friends." As a conga player, it’s been important for me to apply the fundamentals of Afro-Cuban rhythms with the proper technique and discipline. Performing with people who appreciate the profundity of Latin music brings me enormous pleasure.

I will continue to believe in my heartbeat and dreams. I give thanks to everybody who has inspired, supported, and taught me along this joyful path.
