'ridiculous mercy' is my first full length record of songs i'd written over the pass 2 or 3 years. i've written a lot of songs, but figure i'd start with these 10. it is a great thing to be able to craft something that has history in it, an expression and a soundtrack of my journey with God, my wife and people that are broken, seeking and hungry for something more. that pretty much sums up the content of this record.
to me, its definitely a worship record because it cost me to make it. in blood, sweat and tears, in time and money and out of a deep place with God. churches could sing some of these songs, but that's not my goal. im not striving to fit in to what we've made a genre, yet i love the worship movement on the planet right now. instead of striving to be relevant, i really just want to join in this journey with many to be a people making a sound, with a pure heart, coming alive in the beauty of holiness. these are songs that i live in, and if others can find themselves living in them as well, then that is amazing too.
about the record-
i recorded this with one of my best friends, adam taylor, an amazing musician and friend. we tracked drums in my friend tyler chester's living room, guitars and some synths in adams house, piano in my friend aeron brown's house, who also did art for the album. and i programed everything else with synths, ableton live and reason software. my friend cassidy jones sang on 'lose control', which is one of my favorites on this record. aeron and i wrote 'you i must possess' together one night as are wives were chit chatting. adam wrote 'split the skies', along with charles wesley's 'o for a thousand tongues to sing', and i use to do it for worship sets all the time. glad to have it on a record now. my wife, cassidy, adam, aeron and his kids did gang vocals on a few tracks also.
thanks for listening. i hope that you would come alive in the beauty of holiness as you blast this record in your car stereos, ipods and ghetto blasters
