Album Notes

As a member of Fred Eaglesmith and the Flying Squirrels since 2001, Dan toured North America, Europe and Australia relentlessly performing with the band approximately 250 shows per year. During that time he shared the stage with such luminaries as The Del McCoury Band, Willie Nelson, Delbert McClinton, Bill Kirchen and many others.

In December of 2005, Dan left The Flying Squirrels to begin a career with Romi Mayes from Winnipeg, MB. Dan first met Romi in the summer of 2005 when she was slated to open an Eaglesmith show at a festival in Northern Ontario. Romi invited Dan to join her with his dobro for her set. Dan, not really knowing any of her music, blindly joined her and immediately the musical sparks were flying. "After the first song, Romi and I realized that we had an instant musical chemistry. Romi is one of the strongest rhythm guitar players that I have ever met and she has a way of telling a story in her songs that can strike the heart of anyone who hears them" says Dan.

Dan is currently in the midst of finishing his solo album of instrumental music. "I have been working on this record for the past year and it will feature some awesome musicians. Some of these players you have heard of before, and some you haven't. They are all monster musicians and real good friends of mine and it has been a real pleasure to record music with these people."

From Exclaim Magazine, October 2006 :

Erstwhile sideman to the much-traveled Fred J. Eaglesmith, the multi-talented Dan Walsh paints a vivid sonic picture of the touring life on his all-instrumental debut, recorded around Lake Erie and in “various motels throughout the southern United States.” First track “Geary Street” begins, suitably, with the sound of a car starting, and what follows is an earnest journey through Walsh’s musical influences and history. Whether leading the spry country-shuffle of “White Knuckle,” the old school honky tonk of the alarmingly titled “Swingin’ Johnson” or the blues rock of “Spark Plug,” Walsh’s adeptness at playing multiple instruments on each track (including, but not limited to, guitar, bass, drums, dobro and piano) renders the organic sound of the recording all the more remarkable. The aptly named “Lonely Road” closes the album in modestly epic fashion, a 9-plus minute thematic sweep that is a fine showcase for Walsh’s understated talents. Music to be listened to while driving alone at night.
