As a child Debra Watson firmly planted herself in front of Dick Clark's American Bandstand every Saturday to watch the newest bands and solo artists. Her mother took her to see Elvis when she was four. Though she doesn't remember, some fans might say there is a definite influence by her hip action during live performances. When she was in San Francisco on her first vacation away from home, she was almost knocked over by a wild woman dressed in red, white and blue. That woman turned out to be none other than the great Janis Joplin. To this day, Debra feels she was "touched by Janis". In Austin, Texas Debra joined Esther Follies, Austin's premiere sketch comedy troupe. Later she co-formed her own Austin comedy sketch troupe "Better Than Tv Players". Debra eventually spread her wings and took off for Los Angeles where she formed the Backyard Angels with guitarist Michael Carter. In Los Angeles she sang with many blues and swing bands including J.J. Bad Boy Jones, William "Soul" Porter, Flat Top Tom & His Jumpcats and Swing Syndicate. Later, she assembled some of L.A.'s finest musicians to form Debra Watson and The Smokin' Aces. On this CD she collaborated with pianist, Karen Hammack and wrote "That's Right" and "Tow Truck Blues".
