'Hangin' Out with My Baby'
Origins

When our son, Asher, was born I was working for NYC's Administration
For Children's Services as a foster care caseworker and part-time actor. After
reading about the Family Leave Act my wife, Lee, and I agreed that we would share daycare responsibilities for our son. She took the first nine months, I took the next nine months. When it was my turn I, arrogantly, thought I would be able to 'tame the beast' known as housework and child care. Did I?
Well, at the end of my first day when Lee came home from work the apartment was a disaster area, and there was no dinner prepared. I gave her the baby and exhausted I crawled into bed. Who knew!?! Over the next few months I got myself on a schedule, and inadvertently started singing songs to
help get myself through the day. The first song was 'Diaper Change', which
helped me survive the drama trauma of changing numerous stinky diapers.
'Time To get Dressed' helped me to be patient while trying to get a squirming
body into unwanted clothes. 'Parts of the Body' was part of our play/exercise
time. 'Sleepy Time' was a way to get my cranky child to take a nap, so I could get some rest. As Asher and I developed our daily routine, I composed more songs. For a long time I didn't share these songs with anyone because they were a part our growth as father and son, our special bond. One day my wife overheard me singing 'Diaper Change' and chimed in. Soon she started singing it when she changed diapers. She encouraged me to write the lyrics and melodies down. Which I did. (We husbands should always listen to our wives suggestions!) One Sunday we were in church, taking care of the infants and toddlers when Lee started singing Diaper Change. Over the course of a month or so other people started singing it when it was time to change diapers. People started asking for copies of the words/music, which led to the idea of making a CD of all the songs. I was excited about the idea, but very hesitant. After lots of encouragement and offers to buy a non-existent CD, I figured- why not!!

I hope 'Hangin' Out With My Baby' will help you develop a special bond with your child the way it did for me, and be your musical way to get through the day. Enjoy!

PARENT REVIEWS:

"Hanging Out With My Baby" is a fun album. I play it each morning while my one year old has breakfast and we both enjoy the tunes. I find most children's albums annoying, but not his one. I particularly like the song [that] teaches the baby the parts of her body. This is the only album I can stand to listen to each day!

"I listened and I got to say... I loved the CD. The lyrics are catchy! The music goes perfectly with songs being [sung]. I can imagine rocking the baby to a couple of songs as well as singing along with other songs while doing motions. The songs were also simple enough for little ones to learn. I can hear these songs being played in daycares and nurseries all over! The children in the infant and two-three year old classes would get a kick out of many of these songs. I listened to the songs and they reminded me of songs I would have liked to sing to Delo when he was a baby! I would love to have a CD that has a variety of music on it so that it could be used for many occasions. Thanks for sharing it with me."

Dwayne and Lee--
Here's what we think of your fantastic CD! My baby loves to listen to Hangin' Out With My Baby. Dressing, waking, eating, walking--there is a song for every time in a busy baby's day.
But the best part about it is that the songs are so catchy I find myself singing them to her throughout the day.
Thanks!

"I like the CD because it is fun and the songs are easy to learn. My 10 month old already recognizes certain favorites that we play (Diaper change, taking a bath, suppertime, the breakfast song). Each song is fresh with different twists that make them fun (animal noises, spelling out words). I especially like the different musical styles like the Jamaican flavor of the Taking a Bath song, and the blues flavor of Suppertime. These songs make it easy for parents who may not be the most musical to sing along with their children throughout the daily activities! It's great!!"

I have ordered 3 CD's so far. They make great gifts for someone with a new baby. My kids fall asleep to the sleepy time song. When they hear it their eye lids start to get heavy. I sing the good morning song to my son and he just looks at me and smiles in the morning. It is a great CD. Thanks for the pleasures.

  • I love the CD but would love to have the lyrics with it

We absolutely love this CD. Hangin' Out With My Baby has wonderful songs that the entire family can sing along to. My baby is 4 months old and he seems to listen attentively when I play it for him.
