Meet DERRICK WILLIAMS, singer, songwriter, pianist, and producer. No stranger to the music scene, this confident yet humble talent has all of the elements of a great entertainer. Although Derrick has enjoyed a successful performance career on the local and regional scene, he is ready to emerge onto the national scene! With aspirations of exposing his music to the world, he founded Derlie Records, (pronounced "Deer-lee"), an independent Urban and Gospel recording label company. The launching of the record label has created an avenue for Derrick to independently showcase his explosive song writing and producing skills - while maintaining his creative control.
Finally, the wait is over! Derrick's highly anticipated hot new debut compact disc "Let Me Kick My Groove" Featuring the hit single "My Lover" will be available in a record store near you, Summer 2001. The album promises to deliver a new caliber of entertainment with a wealth of creativity and originality and focuses on Derrick's ability to kick out a dance groove and showcases his talent as balladeer.
Inspired by legendary greats such as: Oscar Peterson, Patti Labelle, and Stevie Wonder - this talent promises to be one of the industries most dominant male "Divas" for the new century. If you had to compare this rising vocalist to an industry talent, justice could only be served by paralleling him with some of the industries most dominate forces! I guess you could say he's a unique balance between the robust vocalization of Teddy Pendergrass and the vocal magnitude of Patti Labelle.
Born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, this gifted musical talent was discovered at the age of five. Never having studied music professionally, at the age of eight, he began singing and playing the piano for a Sunday school service. Derrick's inspiring Gospel roots (the father a minister and mother a teacher, pianist, and Gospel singer) propelled him to excel in music via high school choirs thus winning multiple talent contests and awards during his adolescent years.
His first gig was in Florida with a five-piece band singing lead vocals to 50s and 60s tunes while playing the keyboards. "The Jury," an appropriate name for a band which appeared nightly at the Judges'Chambers, gave Derrick the foundation he needed to become one of Florida's most versatile entertainers.
Also, for the first time in Buccaneer history, a professional football player has an original theme song. Derrick wrote "Give Mike the Ball," The "A-Train" Theme Song, for popular Tampa Bay Buccaneer fullback, Mike Alstott, (#40) "The A-Train." "Give Mike the Ball", is a funky upbeat Urban/Pop Dance track that exemplifies the true "spirit" of the three time Pro Bowlers' game. "Give Mike the Ball" was released on Derlie Records September 29, 2000 and is available in stores, online, and at derlierecords.com
