April 2008
In early January 2006, adorned in poor-fitting, borrowed business casual, Dylan Sneed slumped in a cubicle of a cold office building in downtown Dallas, TX. Over his short but painful tenure in the machine of corporate America, he learned many lessons, but one prevailed above the rest: this was not where he was supposed to spend the rest of his life.
Two years and 35,000 miles later, Dylan has become a full-fledged road warrior, and one of Dallas' "A-list area tunesmiths" (Dallas Observer). After escaping his corporate confines he booked three national tours over '06 and '07 the grassroots way, making friends and fans one at a time across the country, with a focus on the South.
After finding his audience on the road, Sneed began to find his voice in the studio. The Dallas Observer praised his 2007 EP No Worse For The Wear as “one of the best local releases of the year.” Produced by Steven Collins of Deadman, the Fort Worth Weekly dubbed Sneed's fourth release "epic." Dylan continues to tour in support of it as he finishes writing material for a follow-up full length.
While not on the road, Sneed is hard at work at home. At his weekly "Alphabet Soup" concert series he performs a different 10-song set every Sunday. The tunes pertain to an audience-suggested word, which begins with a randomly selected letter (e.g., "H" is for "Hasselhoff"). Making it half-way through the alphabet, Sneed singlehandedly learned and performed nearly 130 songs in 6 months, all while continuing to tour Texas.
In early 2008 Sneed set off on his first tour as a sideman, playing electric guitar and banjo for fellow Texan Kristy Kruger, as well as performing his own songs. Along with drummer Richard Hewett, they sailed across the South for two months. The trio continues to collaborate today.
Armed with a stronger network of friends and fans, Dylan will set out on his most difficult and unique tour to date this fall. Dubbed "Texodus," this is one trip that he does not plan to return from. After years of attempting to carve out a niche for himself in Dallas, Dylan is ready to try some new climes. He plans to sell all but only his most essential possessions, load up his car, and travel to Hartsville, South Carolina, performing shows along the way. Perhaps his feelings about the move/tour could be best described in a line from his song "No Worse For The Wear:" "I still don't know what I'm after / I just know what I was before."

This EP has got the goods
author: M. L. Downey
One thing about EPs is you have to have the goods because every song counts. Dylan Sneed’s thoughtful meditations on life, love and faith are equally playful and somber, aided by his catchy melodies, his nimble picking, and his capable band of friends. “No Worse for the Wear” kicks off with the title cut, a rollicking shuffle (courtesy of Jeff Rogers’ percussion) with inflections of Paul Simon’s “Graceland” “Faith puts you together/It tears you apart” is just one thought examined in “What I Love, What I Fear.” The tune “Killin’ Time” matches Sneed’s supple picking with Katy Rose Cox’s mournful fiddle and lyrics that ponder how we spend our mortal time. “Look Inside” is another splendid acoustic gem that weaves both the wonder of how well a loved one knows you and how short a time we have - “Life is just a vapor/Life is just a mist.” The EP closes with the slow affirming “What I Thought” with lines like “Life’s not what I thought it’d be/It’s just what it is.”

Hoorah~the Texanator!!!

Dylan allows us to Look Inside his heart on these tunes. The music is easy to relate to and on some songs I wonder, "How could he know What I Thought?" Unfortunately, I missed his show when he came to Houston, for I was instead just Killin' Time waiting for my car to be repaired. Hopefully, I can make it to the show next time he comes to town because this music is What I Love...What I Fear is missing it again :-/ So glad to finally get the CD so I can listen to it in my car instead of just on myspace! Good thing it's not a cassette tape because with all the plays the CD is No Worse for the Wear.
