Since 2002 Earlymay have been honing their musical noise and plying their trade in the breeding ground of countless hipsters and throwaway critics, New York City. A highly charged and distinctive blend of soaring guitars, pounding drums and delicate harmonies, this quartet create a raw, multilayered wall of sound, whilst paying homage to the likes of Remy Zero, early Radiohead and U2.
The core of Earlymay have been making music together for years. Frontman and guitarist, Brad Peterson, and bass playing younger brother, Scott, were close friends with lead guitarist Aaron Crockett in Big Rapids, Michigan. Copious musical endeavors bloomed over the years before they each migrated to New York City, where they recruited Robby Van Saders on drums.
Their debut album, Stay Off Your Heels (Mother West), was released in October 2003 and gained much critical acclaim. However, it is their recent live shows that have captivated the rapidly growing masses. A fresh energy and gravel edged bravado has emerged and rammed shows at Sin-e, Arlenes Grocery and The Mercury Lounge only stress the point further. Recently finding themselves on the same sell out bill as The Killers, Earlymay appeared unconcerned, unleashing their frenetic and driven sound on the expectant crowd - business as usual.
In June 2004 they returned to the studio and are presently working on their new EP, Little Answers, with producer Charles Newman, who has recently worked on the new The Magnetic Fields record, i (Nonesuch), and with Walter Schriefels of both Quicksand and Rival Schools fame. This collaboration couples an eclectic feel with ravishing melodies and a rock edge. It contains the highly contagious tracks Lay Me Down, Little Answers plus Radiant and is scheduled for a Fall release. With this record the Earlymay sound that has already lured so many, will entice even more and continue this well earned momentum.
