Album Notes

Critically acclaimed as a masterpiece, Earwig's album, Perfect Past Tense, is a breath of fresh air in a stale indie-rock world.

On Perfect Past Tense, their second full-length studio album for LFM Records, Earwig combines the melodic sounds of bands like Radiohead, Elliot Smith and the Foo Fighters with heart-on-yr-sleeve lyrics and dramatic guitar riffs to forge a sound that is theirs alone. The top notch songwriting only helps to make this a disc that will have you leaping out of your chair in spontaneous fits of air guitar strumming.

Bred from garages in Columbus, Ohio, Earwig sends honest and passionate feelings thru lyrics and no-frills musicianship. The clever trio works the space between studied lo-fi ineptitude and infectious pop hookery and cuts to the heart of what makes us like to listen.

A largely unknown midwestern three-piece who are often compared to the likes of Pavement, the Foo Fighters or Built To Spill, they are one of the best underground bands in America. With two successful albums under their belt and a third recently released, it's time for Earwig to crawl out of its nest and find its way directly into the ears of people interested in hearing some quality, punchy music. Including yours.

Gestated in 1992 in Columbus, Ohio, Earwig has won over its share of fans, critics and industry insiders. The band's full-length debut, 1994's 'Mayfeeder,' has sold over 2,000 copies, and the live follow-up, 'Bored in Chicago,' has done equally well.

While supporting 'Mayfeeder,' Earwig toured extensively nationwide, infecting fans across the country with their big hooks, melodic guitars and lyrical tales of the broken-hearted.

In addition to several online publications, radio stations and fanzines, including the popular Compuserve site, Earwig was featured in Entertainment Weekly as being part of the next big music scene.

Leaping back into the studio with the help of multi-platinum producer Jared Kotler (Marcy Playground) and their own Lizard Family Music label, Earwig released another pop masterpiece, 'Perfect Past Tense,' that will continue leading the band on its way to the top.

Enjoy. And become part of the ascension.

i'm arguably earwig's biggest fan they don't know! i grew up listening to these guys play out in columbus- and they have just gotten better and better! i'd describe their sound on this release as guitar-driven, melodic indie-pop takes on relationships & "the scene" with lyrics that bite & connect. The sound quality is leaps & bounds above mayfeeder- their previous release. i just can't quit listening to this CD! it only take a couple of earwig cords to make me smile, and lizard mcgee's songwriting is still my standard for indie-rock/emo. you'll be sorry if you don't check out earwig's label at lizardfamily.com for more.

Album of the year.

Every song on this album is a gem. The overall result after a listen: a new appreciation for what indie rock can achieve. The songs invoke emotions effortlessly; the guitar work stimulates, while the lyrics penetrate, the mind. It is the finest album I have purchased in two years, and it is an outright disservice to the business of making real, powerful, important, and worthwhile music, should you not buy it.

Perfect Past Tense is the first indie-rock album to give me goosebumps in a long time! Using a couple of different drummers on the album gives it a very unique feel and allows you to hear different sides of the band. There's just great songwriting on this album. Songs like Best Kept Secret and Drag are two of my favorite songs of the year. With rock bands disappearing out of the mainstream, it's great to know that there are bands like Earwig that are ready to take over. I can't wait to hear what they do next!

No reason these guys aren't the biggest name in rock. Get off your arses A&R guys and sign this band. You're looking for sales numbers? How about looking at quality musicianship and songwriting? This disc is absolutely freaking amazing and radio-ready. I'm so glad I bought it.
