The Easy Outs have teamed up with guitarist/songwriter Gar Francis (The Doughboys) for their latest single out on Bongo Boys Records. Come On, Come On is a collaboration between Francis and drummer/songwriter Kurt Reil from The Grip Weeds. With the good time Farfisa vibe of ? And The Mysterians, sing along choruses and solid simple playing, the tune tackles roots 1960s territory with traditional style and class.

The Easy Outs take experienced advice here, and it’s a smart move on their part. In today’s industry, there’s absolutely no room for wasting time, and the best way to get where you need to go is to listen to guys that have cleared those roads. In that area of expertise, Francis and Reil move this band around the musical highway and into the fast lane of the Park Avenue players in a straight-ahead way. Gar Francis also guest stars on the single, playing organs, Mellotron, sax and the raunchiest guitar this side of the T. Rex. The Grip Weeds supply tough, blue-collar backing vocals here as well.

I like the old style presentation of sending out a single. I mean, it’s really tough for a simple rock band now, especially with the changes in the industry and their attention towards pre-fab baby food music. I swear if one more 40 year-old dude says to me, “Lady Gaga is really good and her band is totally awesome,” I will yank out their vocal cords. But putting my antisocial demeanor aside, you have to give credit where credit is due.

When a band feels that they have one song that will knock you out and that’s what they send you, that’s pretty definitive of the self-assured talent they possess.

Come On, Come On isn’t going to solve the oil spill crisis or fix the unemployment debacle, but it definitely will raise your spirits and get your mind off of the world and into its cool rhythms, gritty sounds and sing along lyrics. And at the end of the day that’s all that it’s really about. Real music that makes you feel something instead of just putting you into the corner of some dopey hipster joint that blasts trend while you stand there sipping $14 martinis.

Gar and the boys take basic 1960s roots language and turn it into an infectious good time performance that everyone can understand, and in this crazy day and age that just might be the best kind of communication for all of us. Jersey Shore rockers The Easy Outs score big with "Come On Come On", a 1960's rock flavored pop tune complete with Back Beat and sing-along chorus. The simple but compelling guitar riff that brackets the chorus is right out of the rock n roll guitar handbook, and its hard to imagine The Easy Outs not gaining some serious attention for "Come On Come On"; if not on the charts then at least in the licensing realm. A collaboration between the Easy Outs and Kurt Reil (The Doughboys, the Grip Weeds) "Come On Come On" will make you want to dance and sing-along and party like they did before Disco was born.

When you're approached by a doughboy, what's the first thing you think?  That's right.  You're expecting to stick your index finger into his belly and watch him chuckle with glee.  It tickles!
 
What are you NOT expecting?  That the Doughboy is going to tickle YOU.  But that's exactly what happened when I was approched to give an advance listen to "Come On, Come On" by Gar Francis, songwriter/guitarist from The Doughboys.
 
Now make no mistake:  This is not The Doughboys, nor is it an incredible simulation.  I will not spend the time here extolling their many virtues, however (although I easily could); this is (drumroll, please...) The Easy Outs (cool name), a Jersey shore rock outfit (yay back row!...and if you're from Jersey, you know what that means) that is apparantly intent on rockin' your world, babies, 'til you cain't rock no more!
 
From the moment you give this MP3 a spin (sigh...you'll find the CD has more spin appeal) you are sucked right into that vibe.  A tinge of 96 Tears.  A dose of Peter Wolf. Shake AND stir, and you have what I can only refer to as garage soul.  A new music term for a song that deserves one! This sucker is downright poppy, but ooh, does it deliver!  It's infectious - you'll not only be singing along from the very first play, but I can practicially guarantee several plays in a row because you can't get the damned thing outta yer head, and you know what?  You don't want to, thank you very much!  After all, it is your head, and this song feeds it.  It's like sugar in an aspartame world.  It's silly, it's frivilous, it's ooh so juicy, but it's real.  It's real!  I'll tell you this: "Come On, Come on" is some of the best three minutes of my life, and ooh goody, I can have those three minutes over and over again anytime I like!
 
The Easy Outs are vocalist Bruce Ferguson, bassist Gage Rowley (dude, can I bum your name?) and drummer Bernie Branz, and let me tell you thanks to these mates, everything old is new again. But wait, if you buy right now, there's more!  Guesting on this hot little number's backing vox are Kurt Reil and Kristin Pinell of New Jersey own The Gripweeds.  And they'll be willing to sing backup on this number every single time you listen to it, at no extra charge!
 
Available through Bongo Boy Records, "Come On, Come on" is a tune you will not want to miss. And as a parting shot, may I say how much I dig the irony of a band calling themselves The Easy Outs when they have scored such a massive home run.  Go get this.  Now. Think of it as a seek and destroy mission:  You seek.  They'll destroy.
