Album Notes

During my time with my first band HERCULES, I had an overflow of tunes hanging around in my book - they weren\'t quite right for the HERCULES sound and seemed destined to remain on the drunken 4am front room set-list...rarely performed well and only ever to a select audience of gorgeous inebriates. Special, but I always felt some deserved more of an outing.

Needing to get away and \'breathe the life of strangers\' as my song goes, I bought a mandolin and spent six months roaming South America, writing more tunes, overdosing on Inca ruins, getting ripped off, meeting many wonderful people and letting Brazilian street kids thrash my mandolin.

Autumn 2004, I returned to the smoke and inspired by Brazilian drumming groups, Pagode bands, The Amazon, the list is endless, I simply brought together sounds that I like: mandolin, bouzouki, acoustic guitar, jazz double bass and Latin percussion. I quickly found some musicians and The Easy Tigers were born.

Over a weekend in February, somewhere in South London, five musicians met and played live. So, with maximum fun and minimal tweaking, the debut album of The Easy Tigers was recorded.

GUITAR & BASS REVIEW - 2008

Propelled by the songwriting, voice and mandolin of Abigail Hercules, The Easy Tigers deliver excellent modern acoustic music. Americana, jazz and country have a stronger influence than English folk; bouzouki, dobro and double bass contribute to interesting arrangements, and subtle acoustic guitars are well placed. Hercules’ storytelling and delivery suggests that Joni Mitchell may have been a formative influence, but the songs feel original and personal. Major labels spend a lot of cash promoting lesser acts – so take a listen.

THE LATE GREATS REVIEW - 11.3.08

Her music is as delightful and playful as she is.

Musician (MU magazine) - 30/5/06

The Tigers are an acoustic group built around the artistic talents of West London star in the making Abi Hercules, who specialise in soulful, jazz influenced and light-hearted songs. Sporting mandolin and bouzouki, Abi could easily become the next fixture in the mainstream firmament.

iTunes review from Bob Fuego May 2006

Found this by accident looking for a Japanese 60s band called ‘The Tigers’. What an accident though, excellent fresh, folky and cheery sounds. Took me ages to find them on the web but The Easy Tigers are headed by the dynamic Abigail Hercules from London (England). Great music that’s totally ignored by the mainstream as usual-pity the fools.

This is a superb album of heartfelt but easily accessible songs
author: David Roper/Friday Night With Jonathan Ross
Breathe the Life of Strangers is a beautiful debut album. I think Ms Hercules has pulled together a really rich melting pot of styles to create a truly original sound. Swinging from the bouncy reggae of Cancel the Day to the soaring almost filmic Eternal Sunshine, which is set to be a classic. The live and honest recording is fresh and vibrant. I'm sure we will hear much more from this talented chanteuse.
