Album Notes

Formed in January of 2001, The Ebb & Flow brings together collaborators Sara Cassetti (drums and voice), Sam Tsitrin (guitar, voice, bass) and Roshy Kheshti (moog, farfisa, vibes, melodica). Hailing from Russia, Iran and upstate New York, and currently residing in the Bay Area, each member brings the sentimentality of sonic transience to the musical table. Resisting genre and playing with sounds has resulted in an eclectic final mix. The band marries the disparate stylings of '70s prog-rock, '60s Kraut-rock, '80s synth-pop, '70s Americana-folk and country.

Immigrant-Americana
author: Im Press
"Demonstration," the Ebb & Flow's first recording, is an ambitious effort. It's mathematical, yet looks good in a skirt and has a pop groove. It is the embodiment of immigrant-Americana, but heavy on the moog with male and female vocals. Think of the Sea and Cake, Stereolab, Tortoise and even Neil Young.

good live, good in the car, too

I spend a lot of time checking out San Francisco bands and by chance caught my first Ebb and Flow show one night at the Odeon. I really enjoyed the music, but didn't hear anything from them for a while. By chance I caught their show again at The Make Out Room quite a few months later. I was once again really turned on by the music. The cd is excellent. I can really hear all that is happening musically, and there is quite a bit going on. The synth stuff immediately catches your attention. Isn't that what moogs are for? But as I have listened more, the guitar gets me going and the drums are so tight and just damn good. What else can you ask for? It is good music.
