Its not often one gets to meet, let alone to perform on the same stage as, the person who most influenced them in their career.
I am one of the lucky ones. I first met Tommy Makem in the late 1960s in Ireland when I was a member of the The Blarney Folk. We later crossed paths at the famed Harp and Bard in Danvers.
It was during this time that we toured together to many exotic and wonderful places that gave birth to numerous "on the road stories"
I want to thank Tommy for all the well-loved refrains he shared with the world. With the help of some friends and family members (Shane, Conor &, Rory, his sons. Tommy and Jimmy Sweeney, his nephews. My son, Kevin Byrne. Friends, Steve Wainwright, Kevin Evans, Brian Doherty, Donnie Moore and John Ferguson from McGinnty, Julie Dougherty, Alan Loughnane Ray Harvey and Gene Ragosta ) we pay tribute to the songs, stories and music of the Bard of Armagh himself Tommy Makem
