Eddie Cantor was number one in every area of his immense career. He started in vaudeville and became a major star of the Ziegfeld Follies. He began recording in 1917 for the Victor label and made records throughout his entire life. Some of his hits include "Makin Whoopee,""Ida,""If You Knew Susie" and "Ma! He's Makin Eyes At Me." He became the top rated radio show in 1931 and had a show right through the 60s. He discovered such stars as Dinah Shore and Eddie Fisher. He started the March of Dimes and made billions for charity. He became a movie star with his films for Samuel Goldwyn such as "Whoopee,""Kid Millions,""Palmy Days,""The Kid From Spain" and "Roman Scandals" (where he gave Lucille Ball her big start.) He wrote a few songs including "Merrily We Roll Along" (the Bugs Bunny cartoon theme!) He wrote many best selling books including two autobiographies "My Life Is In Your Hands" and "Take My Life" (now back in print thru Cooper Square Press.) He was given an honorary Oscar in 1957 and died in 1964. This a tribute to his friend Al Jolson.

author: George Bettinger
It is really something rich and rare to hear a true show business legend saluting another. But that is what you will get when your listen to "I REMEMBER JOLSON" Eddie Cantor and Al Jolson were the top in their field way back in the 1920's. If you mentioned BROADWAY you were mentioning their names back then. Cantor star of The Zeigfeld Follies and his own shows shuch as Kid Boots and Whoopee and Jolson the King Of The Winter Garden and "The Worlds Greatest Entertainer" They also made hundreds of recordings that sold like crazy and appeared in films and on radio. Eddie knew Al Jolson very well. They admired each other and always mentioned one another all through their long careers. Eddie Cantor out lived Jolson by some 14 years. In that time Eddie ventured into Television with The Colgate Comedy Hour and brought his wonderful talents as a host to TV. He never forgot "JOLIE" and on this CD you have the RARE opportunity to hear Eddie paying tribute to his show business pal Al Jolson. You will learn about Jolson and his famous songs...and what better way then through a true contemporary
